The Freedom of Information Act (FOI) which has been in force for over decade, has aimed to make public authorities open, transparent and accountable to taxpayers. Whilst it has undoubtedly achieved this, it remains a major challenge for public bodies to cope with the ever growing numbers of complex requests. In addition to this, the public sector are seeing an increasing number of requests for data to be re-used for commercial purposes. This Understanding Freedom of Information Requests and Transparency course, led by Paul Gibbons, will give delegates the knowledge and skills they need to improve their processes and answer requests for information. By the end of the day, delegates will understand how to manage their obligations under FOI including refusing requests and pro-actively publishing information. Time: 9:15 am - 4:15 pm.
