Balancing Savings With Safety: The Future of Biosimilars
Presenting a session on biosimilars and biologics, Amgen Senior Vice President Joseph Miletich, MD, PhD, shared the many challenges associated with the study and manufacture of biologic medicines, with processes such as purification and transport having impacts on the produce that vary significantly from traditional small molecule drugs.
It is partially these complexities, he noted, that can contribute to minute (but potentially important) differences between biosimilars and reference products – although he even noted that innovator products face variability from lot to lot.
