CIEW - Cameroon International Energy & Water Investment Conference 2012
conferences > Electrical Engineering conferences > CIEW - Cameroon International Energy & Water Investment Conference
June 28 - 29, 2012
Yaounde , Cameroon
The second edition of CIEW will take place on the 28th- 29th June 2012 in Yaoundé, the republic of Cameroon at the Hilton Hotel.
The 2nd Cameroon international energy and water conference will continue to provide a unique & unrivalled platform for all stake holders to promote investment, evaluate the key challenges & opportunities in these sectors. Building on the experiences of existing investors, recent developments and success stories the 2nd CIEW will examine the guiding principles needed to further enhance private sector investment in the Energy & Water resource sector and achieving the aims of Cameroons Vision 2035.
Cameroon is endowed with abundant primary energy resources which include:
• Hydro electric power: estimated potential is 55.2 giga watts (GW); Cameroon is second only to the Democratic Republic of Congo for HEP output potential in Africa. Of this potential only 3% has been harnessed
• Natural Gas: proven reserves estimated at 110 billion cubic metres or close to 6 Tcf, the harnessed potential is presently nil.
-Biomass Residues: arising from agriculture, forest, untapped potential can be used for generation of heat and power.
• Renewable energy such as solar energy: average annual irradiation of 4 kWh/m2 /day, however potential is not being exploited, same follows with wind energy where suitable sites have been identified not being used. A renewable energy policy is being prepared with policy goals to increase the share of renewable to power and heat generations and to involve private capital in delivery of energy.
Topics in the conference will include:
• Updates on Cameroon Power sector Generation, Transmission and Distribution: Tariffs high Enough to Attract Investment, low Enough to Attract Consumers
• Update on Mega power projects planned and ongoing/ The energy Mix of Cameroon 2035
