Recognising that support resources constitute the biggest expense of all in military systems, militaries have increasingly adopted Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) for the purpose of optimising whole life cost. By taking supportability and its requirements into considerations at the system design stage of a project, ILS creates a system which requires minimum support, thus minimising lifecycle cost and increasing operational efficiency. Nevertheless, designing an optimum ILS plan is always tricky as it interfaces with a wide range of logistic elements and tradeoffs are sometimes required. Coupled with constant evolution in military technologies and users’ needs, it is imperative that ILS practitioners have a firm understanding of various factors, including new logistic issues that will affect the optimum design of an ILS plan.

ILS 2011 is a specially designed 3-day course to advance participants knowledge in various core tasks and issues involved in ILS planning. On top of providing participants with critical insights on designing optimum maintenance program and overcoming challenges in ILS planning, various analytical tasks in ILS will be reviewed as well. Participants can also look forward to discussions on practical issues in related to obsolescence management and Performance  Based Logistic. In view of growing importance of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products in  military acquisitions, specific focus will also be put on application of ILS to COTS products.
