The annual Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference closed September 15, 2010 in Fort McMurray at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre at MacDonald Island. Over 4,000 registered visitors attended the two-day trade show & conference.
Show Highlights
* NEW to the Show was the Corporate Responsibility Showcase, which featured operating companies such as ConocoPhillips and Syncrude educating attendees on the vast reclamation projects currently being conducted. Also new was the Career Opportunities Centre, with major operating companies looking to fill positions from entry level to Senior Managers.
* Over 200 new companies were introduced to exhibiting at the event, for a total of 400 exhibiting companies showcasing everything from technology in mining and in situ processes, to transportation, logistics and end user services.
* The Athabasca Oil Sands Conference opened with an address by Honourable Ron Liepert, Minister of Energy for Government of Alberta, who discussed Alberta’s response to the recent anti-oil sands campaigns by special interest groups. “”We’ve launched a Tell it Like it Is campaign. We need to ensure Albertans help us inform friends and relatives around the world about the facts,” said Hon. Liepert. The Conference also offered heavy discussion on water management, and how to use operations excellence to maintain continuous improvement in responsible development of oil sands.
* Networking played a key role at the event, with the sold-out Industry BBQ on Tuesday, September 14 hosting 500 attendees and exhibitors, and featuring a steak dinner and a live performance by Fort McMurray music hero Aaron Lines.
