The global market for pet products continues to perform well in 2009, particularly in emerging markets. Euromonitor International Research has estimated the size of the market for pet food and pet-care products at almost U$69 million in 2008. The drive to growth is particularly strong in Asia Pacific, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

The number of exhibitors in the 2009 event increased to 74, representing a 363% increase over 2008. Organiser Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) invited a number of key pet supplies buyers from big chains, department stores, wholesalers and importers from around the globe, including Pets Paradise from Australia, PJ's Pets from Canada, Botanic from France, HIPET from Indonesia, Platz Corp. from Japan, and Cats & Dogs from Russia.

In addition, also visiting World of Pet Supplies were around 10,400 buyers from the concurrently held HKTDC Hong Kong Houseware Fair, including big names such as Carrefour from Argentina and Brazil, Federated Co-operatives Limited from Canada, Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc. from the US, Galeries Lafayette from France, B & I International Ltd. from the UK, Woolworths from South Africa, Bals Corporation from Japan, and Central Department Store Ltd. from Thailand.
