The Skydome was named for former University President Dr. J. Lawrence Walkup. (1958 - 1979). The Skydome is the third largest clear-span timber dome in the world. Nestled in the cool pines of Northern Arizona University's Campus, the Skydome opened on September 17, 1977; two years and eight million dollars after ground breaking.
The Skydome is a multipurpose building which provides facilities for football, basketball, indoor track and field, soccer, weight lifting, student recreation, major concert events, commencements, intramurrals, and a variety of other university and community activities.![]()
