As a profession we've been implementing business partner strategies for around 20 years (as David Ulrich's HR Champions, published in 1996, was just a summary of changes that were already taking place). Despite this accumulated experience many businesses are still struggling to make HR business partnering work. However some organisations have introduced the approach successfully and the rest need to catch up.

This is particularly the case because expectations of the HR function are continuing to increase. People really are at the fore of competitive advantage and HR needs to shape the way that people are managed to deliver what the business needs. Partnering the business is still required but is no longer sufficient. We need to transform ourselves to transform the business and this shift lies behind the new name of this conference in it's fourth year
