Public transport systems underpin urban mobility and are critical to urban prosperity; but these systems remain vulnerable to attack as they are fully open and accessible. With the level of threat remaining high, embedding security measures into public transport systems is an essential requirement; as is ensuring that the use and convenience of public transportation is not compromised. Recent incidents such as the 7/7 attacks and those in Madrid serve to reinforce the need for public transport systems to make concerted efforts to protect passengers and infrastructure across large geographies and to be secure against potential terrorist attack.
