In the modern world today, information-age systems comprising communications and information systems, networks and sensors are being significantly used in the military environment. Although these systems can lead to superior military capabilities, electronic warfare officers have to be equipped with the skills to intercept, identify and localise intentional and unintentional interferences. In order to maintain good connectivity and performance of military systems, it is therefore essential that operators knows the best approach to counter any kind of attacks from the enemies.

While technological advances have improved military superiority in the battlefield, our adversaries are not denied of the same capability to weaken tactical communications and information systems. One of the growing challenges in the electronic warfare environment involves the ability to detect and locate a transmission in an extremely short period of time. Specialised antennas and receivers are also required in identifying threats and deploying effective countermeasures within very narrow time frame. Therefore understanding the different types of receiver systems sensitivity as well as its dynamic range helps officers to deploy the best countermeasures to the existing threats. . Another challenging aspect in the electronic warfare environment is the understanding of communications jamming like the different kind of jamming methods as well as the type of signals involved.
