Homework assignments are a crucial feature of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and have sound empirical support, yet they create many challenges for practice. Some of our clients feel challenged by homework because of the emotions that can be involved, or the apparent inconsistency between the homework and their current coping strategies. Many clients perceive homework as an evaluation of their personal value, their abilities, or as a basis for the likely outcomes of their therapy. Others have strong memories of significant figures in their lives when being asked to try a homework task.
This workshop teaches a model for the effective use of therapeutic homework that enhances case conceptualization, and the relationship element of collaborative empiricism. Such knowledge can thereby assist in achieving optimal outcomes for your clients, especially those with persistent interpersonal difficulties and complex presentations.
