September 7 - 11, 2015    Fribourg , Switzerland
The International Association for the History of Glass (AIHV) was founded by Joseph Phillipe, Director of the Musée Curtius of Liège, in 1956. The first AIHV Congress, then called the Journées Internationales du Verre, took place in Liège in 1958. AIHV membership includes archaeologists, art historians, artists, collectors, museum curators, scientists and art restorers. Currently the AIHV has nearly 300 members in 33 countries.

Every three years a congress is held where the latest research is presented. Visits and post congress tours are organised to museums and other places of interest. The congress also provides the opportunity to meet and socialise with fellow enthusiasts. The last congress was held in Piran, Slovenia in September 2012; previous venues have been Berlin, Damascus, London, Prague, Nancy, Madrid, Basel, Vienna, the Netherlands, Venice and Milan, New York and Corning, London again, Antwerp, and Thessaloniki.

The official languages of the conference are English, German, and French. Papers may be delivered in any of these three languages at the conference, and subsequently published in the conference proceedings (Annales AIHV).

The Association is governed by statutes laid down under Dutch law. Membership of the AIHV is open to all. Students may join free of charge, for others there is an annual subscription. The AIHV is governed by a Board and an Executive Committee elected by the General Assembly of members at each congress.
