The Academy follows the mission to “promote a better understanding among the public at large of scientific and scholarly issues which affect society, its quality of life and its standards of living”. According to this mission the Academia Europaea 2015 invites to keynote talks by distinguished researchers and will offer parallel streams focussing on the knowledge exchange between disciplines. Leading experts will present their field of research and demonstrate its relevance and (potential) impact to the world and to other research domains.
Academia Europaea 2015 will take place in Darmstadt, a city that combines humanities, engineering sciences and arts. In addition to its official title 'Wissenschaftsstadt' (Science City) it is also called the “City of Poets, Thinkers and Space Explorers” (link is external) but also “Home to Science and Engineering Excellence” (link is external). During the Arts and Craft (Art Nouveau) period, Darmstadt was the intellectual center of Germany and today Darmstadt is the location of the European Space Operations Centre ESOC.
Last but not least, Darmstadt is located in Europe's center and can easily be reached by all means of transportation.
