Ensuring effective access to all public transport is an important part of developing and fostering an equitable society. Social inclusion through public transport has been seen to enhance areas with lower quality of living for its inhabitants, reducing isolation and providing access to better jobs, goods and services.Accessibility is not simply an issue for those that have mobility impairment but it refers to anyones ability to use transport modes reasonably easily. This could relate to infrastructure issues, frequency of services and connections to onward travel, ability to access digital customer services, congestion on roads, the need for more bikeways, increased services for regional towns and a raft of other solutions/challenges. It is driving new investments in creating accessible transport solutions, and innovation in terminal and vehicle design. Many of the new transport links that are being promised within our major cities are taking into account the need to ensure greater accessibility with a wider population base, and to ensure that the new links integrate effectively with existing transport services so that public transport users can move seamlessly between transport services and modes. For a transport system to be truly accessible it needs to be well connected (which is where the connectivity comes in). For many transport users, getting from A to B using only one mode is increasingly rare. You are likely to need to walk, change from a bus to a train, hop on a bike etc. So ensuring that modes connect efficiently and safely is a key aspect of accessibility.Join us for this two-day conference which will explore directions in transport accessibility and connectivity.Key Topics:People movement, flow and growthImproving customer service levelsAccessibility through better planningIntegrated and multi-modal connectivity.
