What is the difference between alternative medicine and conventional medicine? Are complementary therapies safe and are they extensively tested for efficacy?

Contrary to popular belief, many alternative medical techniques are used every day by people from all walks of life. While the term “alternative medicine” may conjure up exotic images, most are probably familiar. If you've ever massaged your temples to ease a headache or applied an ice pack to a sprained ankle, you've practiced some simple natural healing techniques.

The topic of complementary and alternative therapies always sparks a debate. Want to get the facts?

The next Young Garvan forum hosts an expert panel to discuss the potential, the promise and the current challenges associated with complementary and alternative therapies and how they compare with modern medicine. The panellists will also share their latest advances in this area of research.
