October 20 - 21, 2014    NO CITY , Italy
The International Advisory Board is pleased to announce the Call For Papers for the Fourth International Conference on Food Studies. The Food Studies Conference will be held 20-21 October 2014 at the Monash University Centre Prato in Prato, Italy.

Special Conference Focus:
The Slow Food Movement: Impacts, Responses, Challenges

The Slow Food movement has provoked two critical challenges for Food Studies. First, does the movement serve to protect local and cultural biodiversity, or does it present a new set of equally challenging threats to both human and plant ecologies? Second, while attempting to resist global consumerism and multinational agribusiness, does the movement produce another kind of consumerism in the commodification of local cultures and biological life? These questions uniquely position the Slow Food movement as a powerful site to explore the political, economic, and social challenges of cultural and biological sustainability in an age of globalization.

Conference Themes:
Proposals for paper presentations, workshops, focused discussions, or colloquia are invited that discuss the broader themes listed below. In addition to the special focus, paper presentations will be grouped into one of the following categories for presentation at the conference:

Theme 1: Food Production and Sustainability
Theme 2: Food, Nutrition, and Health
Theme 3: Food Politics, Policies, and Cultures

Presenters may also choose to submit written papers for publication in the fully refereed Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal. If you are unable to attend the conference in person, community memberships are also available which allow you to submit an article based on your presentation for possible publication in this fully refereed academic journal.
