It is a great pleasure for me and all the members of the Delta Diabetes Association (DDA) to welcome all the participants of this conference.
Diabetes mellitus is very common in Egypt, being the 9th country all over the world regarding the number of diabetic patients. Physicians involved in diabetes management are in need of continuous update of their knowledge regarding the different aspects of diabetes. We are in the era of evidence based medicine and clinical guidelines. New information has to be discussed and reviewed in the light of our local habits, environment, experience and resources.
Our new association (DDA) is an idea that has long challenged the thoughts of many of physicians and dialectologist practicing in Delta and Canal governorates. There are many physicians in this area that strive for any bit of knowledge regarding the practice of diabetes.
We have already started a series of seminars in the various aspects of diabetes spanning Damietta (3 times), Tanta, Mansoura, Menoufia, Zagazig and Port said all over the year 2013.
Our mission is to help physicians involved in the management of diabetes be aware of the latest developments in diabetes through a series of seminars covering all the year in all delta and canal governorates. These seminars will cover all aspects of diabetes in a clear and interactive way. In addition, workshops covering practical aspects of diabetes will help physicians be to the point in dealing with the various patients problems. Education will include other health care providers including pharmacists and nurses. Seminars for patient education will be organized throughout the year.
Epidemiologic studies are a main target of the DDA aiming at linking the patients to study centers for conducting research and statistics.
