Before 1970, accessibility and availability of health care services in the Sultanate of Oman were not properly developed. There were only two hospitals in Muscat and few dispensaries distributed in different parts of the country. Today, Oman's efficiency in healthcare delivery and use of its financial resources got high recognition when the country even secured top spot amongst 191 nations in World Health Organisation's (WHO) 2000 World Health Report. Despite such recognition, the Sultanate’s large size and growing population and the increasing presence of large expatriate workforce- the current healthcare system is seen to overburden. Healthcare sectors will continue to face many challenges in delivering quality services including the availability of highly skilled healthcare professionals – particularly doctors and nurses. The inability to meet the rising demands for better health services & quality management has become an issue of the highest importance.

The Oman Quality Management in Healthcare Conference under the theme: “Transforming Oman’s Healthcare Delivery Systems: Facing the Challenges & Driving for Excellence” aims to address the present and future challenges of the Sultanate's healthcare sectors and professionals particularly in the quality management, improvements & excellence in delivery systems.
