Bouncing back from the last financial turmoil, the semiconductor industry emerges with reshufflings and consolidations among the players worldwide. At one end of the spectrum, the industry leaders have reinforced their market positions, technologically or otherwise. At the opposite end, many operators either switched colours or stepped outside the arena. After an acute deprivation, the upsurge current of rapid expansion in manufacturing capacity by the global leaders has been so strong that some observers start to become agitated again about the next business cycle.

From other perspectives, the latest geographical disasters, technological catastrophes and recent geopolitical developments all project long reverberating impacts on global energy supplies and economic redistributions across the social fabrics, with total disregard of national boundaries. Such an upheaval inevitably imparts more momentum to the white-hot notions of everything green: energy, manufacturing, business, life, so on so forth.

Circumscribed by afore-mentioned impacts, interweaving a common forum across the semiconductor, photovoltaic (PV) and solid-state-lighting (SSL) industries is logical in this Asia Pacific region. Our theme therefore focuses on cross-industrial operations, alliance strategies, technological innovations, and business partnerships. Not only do they share some common technologies but rather than their centering on a core of green objectives for sustainable development.
