The trend for self-reporting started with Balfour Beatty and is now expected to continue with AMEC, Mabey and Johnson, BAE Systems and Innospec - leading to plea negotiations and deal making with the prosecutors. This is coupled with the passing of the Bribery Act, one of the most significant reforms to corporate criminal law to take place in recent times. The new act overhauls laws dating back to the 1880s and will undo some of the damage done to the UK's international reputation by the government's handling of the BAE Systems case.
