Indonesia offers unique opportunities to suppliers of electrotechnical equipment and services. If the government are to meet their vision of electricity for all by 2020, 97 million people must be given access to electricity in the next 12 years! This means connecting one million households annually to the grid systems. Soaring power demand at 10% per annum resulting from an economy growing at it’s fastest pace in a decade (6.5% in 2007) requires massive investment in power generation, renewable energy and downstream electrical equipment.

The Electric Indonesia Series 2009 provides a one stop shop for the major elements in the development of the country's electrical sector.

The Government plans to increase power generation by 35,000MW by 2015 including 10,000MW using coal by 2010 at an investment of US$41 billion with power plants costing US$26billion, transmission US$7 billion and distribution US$8 billion. In March 2008 the Government announced that it plans to build four nuclear power plants by 2025 to help meet the domestic demand for electricity. Until this new capacity comes on stream most businesses, factories, shopping malls, schools, ports and airports must invest in back-up generators and onsite power systems given that supply shortages in Indonesia are routine. Rich in natural gas resources, there is strong demand for gas turbines in this private power sector.
