The Summit will be co-chaired by Martin Wolf, Chief Economics Commentator of the Financial Times; James Kynge, the FT’s Emerging Markets Editor;and Jeremy Grant, Asia Regional Corporate Correspondent.

The dynamic of Asia’s growth story has been shifting since China and India’s economies began to slow and the expanding GDP, rising incomes and abundant skilled workforce of Southeast Asia’s booming resource-rich markets started to grab the attention of international businesses and investors.

However, with emerging markets around the world under renewed scrutiny as global capital movements pose fresh challenges for policy-makers, the ASEAN region has to reinforce its long-term potential as an economic and commercial powerhouse.

The key issues surrounding its future development – the industries, sectors and countries that offer the most promise, the obstacles that need to be overcome for that promise to bear fruit, and what this means for businesses, consumers, bankers and investors -- will be the focus of a major new annual Summit being launched by the Financial Times in Singapore in November 2014.

Chaired by senior Financial Times journalists, including Martin Wolf, Chief Economics Commentator, and gathering policy-makers, economists, CEOs, financiers and pre-eminent thought leaders and strategists, the FT ASEAN Economic Summit will become the leading annual conference on a region that could become one of the most important generators of global growth.
