The mining industry saw moderate growth in 2012. The forecast for 2013 / 2015 is strong as global demand for metals continue to increase. Mining companies, however, face major challenges for continuous growth. A rising demand, from the developing world in particular, has made efficiency improvement and cost savings a key challenge within the mining industry.

This course is intended to provide the fundamentals of automation in the mining industry, from networking to central operation dispatch, including monitoring and data generation and analysis. In addition, safety systems based on automation will be discussed. This way the participant will acquire the ability necessary to understand the potential uses of the available solutions in mine automation.
