The cells of our body function in a three-dimensional environment. However, under laboratory conditions, experiments are often carried out in Petri dishes, which offer a 2-D environment. A team led by Professor Martin Bastmeyer the DFG Center for Functional Nanostructures at Karlsruhe have now been able to culture cells specifically on three-dimensional structures.
