November 8 - 9, 2013

Agriculture is considered as “the base for all-round development of other economic sectors” of Myanamar. The three major objectives of the agriculture sector are to achieve surplus in paddy production, to achieve self-sufficiency in edible oil, and to step up the production and export of pulses and industrial crops. It is also the major sector that contributes to GDP of Myanmar, covers the export earnings of 40% and provides employment to more than 60% of workforce.

The raw materials for domestic agro-based industries heavily depend on agriculture. The country is now proactively seeking for more conditions to improve, add value and regain its preeminence in the world’s agricultural markets. This will generate vast emerging potential for investors in agrochemical sector to expand or set up their business in Myanmar, both in upstream and downstream processing. For future prospect, Myanmar set up the millennium development goals targeting 2015 and significant progress has been achieved in various sectors including agriculture.
