A market with phenomenal growth potential
China is the world’s largest vaccine producer and currently the third largest market by value. China represents one of the fastest growing vaccine markets in the world: the capacity jumped from 3.1 billion in 2006 to 6 billion in 2008 with an annual compound growth rate of 39 %. The growth of the Chinese vaccine market is already seen as a major force in the country’s pharma sector and will continue to be in the coming years. The ongoing healthcare reform is giving the vaccine sector a further boost with the Chinese government intending to increase investment from 218 million RMB to 2.8 billion RMB. This increase in funding provides the whole industry with a strong confidence and good environment for further development. With the progress in public healthcare policy and the rising local health standards, more and more Chinese are expected to be voluntarily spending on preventative vaccinations to reduce potential threats from prevalent diseases.
