BOBCATSSS 2014

BOBCATSSS is an annual symposium with themes relating to library and information science. The symposium is under the auspices of EUCLID (European Association for Library and Information Education and Research) and it is organized by students from at lest two European universities. The symposium in January 2014 will take place in Barcelona.

This year’s theme is “Library (r)evolution: Promoting sustainable information practices” and the organizing and planning of the BOBCATSSSS 2014 symposium is a collaboration between two universities from two different countries. The teams from Borås (The university of Borås) and Barcelona (Universitat de Barcelona) are working together in making an international meeting place for exchanging experiences and to fulfil the goal to enable a discussion about sustainable development in the field of library and information science.

BOBCATSSS symposiums are enabling an exchange of views for the target groups; information specialists, students, professors in the field of library and information education and research, but also employees of libraries and information departments. The professionals of tomorrow can gain insight in the work of today’s researchers and teachers, and vice versa.

BOBCATSSS in an acronym for the universities that initiated the symposium in 1993: Budapest, Oslo, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Tampere, Stuttgart, Szombathely and Sheffield. BOBCATSSS is an university network and during the last years further members have joined it: Borås, Riga, Kharkiv, Moscow, Tallinn, Torun, Warsaw, Sofia, Ljubljana, Krakow, Bratislava, Prague, Osjiek, Zadar, Berlin, Potsdam, Porto and Parma.

The uniqueness of BOBCATSSS is the student involvement in the planning and organizing of a symposium. They have arranging responsibilities where they have every aspect on their plate, like financing, marketing, managing abstracts and papers, making a program and a lot more. By o
