');" /> As of January 1, 2003, the Bolzano Exhibition Center is now a corporation. It organizes directly all of the most important events on its calendar, guaranteeing in this way a high degree of management autonomy and a credit balance. The results achieved have ensured the Exhibition Center the reputation of an efficient private entrepreneur upon whom no state or provincial subsidies are bestowed.
Bolzano is heir to an ancient tradition of fairs: the first evidence of commercial exchanges with other regions in the area, not only on the Italian peninsula but throughout the Alps, dates back to the year 1070. The geographical position of the city and its indisputable role as a bridge between Northern and Southern Europe have always favored commercial, economic, and cultural relations with neighboring countries.
The first modern tradeshow, the "Campionaria" (Samples Fair), took place in 1948. Tradeshows and exhibitions are now organized in collaboration with the most important associations in the field. The Bolzano Exhibition Center is a member of the U.F.I., the Union des Foires Internationales (Union of International Exhibition Centers) as well as the A.E.F.I., the Associazione Enti Fieristici Italiani (Association of Italian Exhibition Center Authorities). It is an observing member of the A.M.A. (the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Messen Austria), the association formed by Austrian exhibition centers.
