The industries of the extractive sector face many risks of a similar nature. The decision to explore for a resource, and potentially extract it, poses a wide array of opportunities and threats. Will there be anything of worth in the ground, and can you prove it? Do you have the technical skill to extract, process, or produce it both economically and responsibly? Will you be able to gain and retain your licence to operate? Will the need for your resource, and price it commands be sustained throughout the life of your asset? What will your legacy be when you walk away from site?
