The world market was presented with many uncertainties this year, from the likelihood of a worldwide economic slowdown to the imminent European crisis, volatile exchange rates, and natural disasters such as earthquakes in Japan and floods in Thailand, for which we give our deepest condolences for the loss of lives and property. These disasters have disrupted the global supply chain while China, the world’s factory, was hit by a series of industrial safety and hygiene issues; furthermore, uncertainties in the market have also reduced private consumption and caused disorder for new product launches and mass production. As a result, the IMF (International Monetary Fund) has revised its economic growth forecasts downward to 4% worldwide, 6.3% in Asia, and 5.2% in Taiwan.
