Voluntary work refers to those efforts done by society members through institutions set up by legal rules and regulations. Those efforts are performed in order to achieve humanitarian, social, professional or economic purposes without expecting anything in return. In fact, these efforts have no value unless they are preceded by "culture", which inevitably promotes the value of volunteerism, motivates volunteers, and appreciate those who involve in volunteer work.

The 1st National Conference on Volunteerism under the theme "Volunteer Work and It's Role in Developing a Community" comes in line with the belief of the Ministry of Social Development on the fundamental role that volunteerism plays in contributing to the development of a community.

The conference will be attended by various government organisations, NGOs, social clubs as well as the business community to synergize and pursue its commitments towards voluntary work and community development.
