Workshop Overview

This course covers the analysis of power system faults and includes the fault intelligence and analysis to develop strategies for improved failure prevention. Focusing on fault repairs and emergency response as well as on quality assurance and the development of reliability strategies this workshop is enriched with international best-practice case studies to learn from the best! Delegates of this training will explore the fastest and most efficient emergency responses to minimize further damages and financial losses in case of an accident. Participants will be enabled to clear faults from the power system in high speed to enhance people’s safety and minimize equipment damage and maintain power system stability.

The addition of new power system facilities, e.g., power plants, lines, new loads, etc. complicate the power network. Therefore it is no surprise that faults occur frequently in all parts of the system. This workshop will demonstrate how present and future power system can be protected by developing individualized reliability strategies. When a fault occurs in a high or low-voltage public, industrial or rail traction network, it is vital that the cause is traced. Not only with a view to resolving issues of liability, but also in order to prevent recurrence.

There are a number of industries where equipment is particularly vulnerable to power failures. These are invariably ones where there are large masses at an elevated temperature. Damage mechanisms vary, but can typically be categorised in terms of lack of cooling, liquid metal or glass breakouts, and damaging expansion/contraction. All these are predictable, so in an ideal world critical equipment is identified, duplicated and alternate means of electricity provided.
